Elastic performance is a system: fiber, structure, dimensions, applied extension, sewing and care all contribute to how the finished component behaves.
Start with the real use case
A waistband that feels too loose after wear may reflect fiber selection, construction, overextension during sewing, unsuitable dimensions or repeated exposure to heat, moisture and laundering. The symptom alone does not identify a single cause.
What to specify and evaluate
Record relaxed width and length, the extension used in the garment, recovery after release and the care conditions. Compare samples using a consistent method and conditioning procedure. For production, specify the extension range and recovery criterion that matter for the garment rather than relying on a vague term such as “strong stretch.”
Set acceptance criteria
Check whether the elastic is fed and sewn without unintended pre-stretch. Review stitch type, seam stretch, casing friction and garment pattern dimensions. Inspect after the care cycle expected in use. Agree on a test method and acceptance range with the supplier.
Preparing a supplier inquiry
Share the application, target extension, finished width, sewing method, laundering conditions and a sample of the problem. KVN can discuss knitted or jacquard elastic options subject to availability.
